The book of Hosea in the Bible tells the story of a prophet whose wife is unfaithful. She leaves the man she has married and sleeps with other men. She breaks all the promises she has made to Hosea. But Hosea is not prepared to just let her walk away and he goes out in search of her and seeks to win her back. In the Bible the story of Hosea and Gomer becomes an acted-out example of God’s love for his people, who like Gomer, have turned their backs on the promises they have made. Here we learn that God has a deep love for his people and cannot just turn his back on them. Despite all they have done, he still cares for them.
I wonder if there are people in your life, who need to know that you love them that deeply. Even if they do something to hurt you, maybe even betray you, you will still love them and care for them. It’s not an easy thing to do, in fact maybe to love like that, we need to first experience God’s unconditional love for us.
If you are struggling at this time and just need someone to talk to then please email us at office@pb.org.nz or call 0223075225 and we will make contact with you.
This Sunday we begin a news series ‘Love that won’t let go’ looking at the life of the prophet Hosea. Sunday 10am.
