Haman was a bloke who got offered a pretty good job – actually it was the second to top job – the second in command to the king of Persia. This new found power and prestige made Haman think he was pretty important and as far as he was concerned everyone should treat him with awe and respect. So when someone below him refused to bow down to him, Haman decide that he would make the guy pay - he and all his fellow countrymen.
I wonder who often we allow ourselves to be influenced by a desire to have something we can’t get? And I wonder how often we use our position or power to either get it or to punish those who won’t play the game. Jesus reminds us that any position of power we may have exists, not to make us look good, but to seek the very best for those around us and for the communities in which we live.
So This Sunday we will be thinking about Haman and his desire to serve only himself. When we live like Haman, focussed only on ourselves, what do we miss out on?
Mainly Music- Meets Wednesdays at 10.00am. This programme is a fun way for parents and their children to spend quality time together based around music and movement. It is a way for us as a church to connect with and offer something back to the community of which we are a part. It’s also a way for us to demonstrate care, concern and support for those with young children.
