What divides us

Two weeks ago my grandson and I were faced with a dilemma – which team did we want to win the Rugby Championship. He supports the Chiefs, and I was supporting the Hurricanes. Unfortunately for me, the Chiefs won, deservedly so. There was lots of banter and laughter and a “we won, you lost” ribbing. As I reflected on that event it occurred to me how sometimes our differences can drive us apart – whether they be sporting, political or geographical. And sometimes, as our tv’s show us, these differences can become violent and brutal. What we need is something bigger than our differences to unite us, to remind us that we are not enemies. Maybe we need to be reminded that what we share in common is greater than what divides us.

Paul writing to the young church at Ephesus reminded them, that despite their differences, Jew and Gentile, what united them was their faith and love for Jesus.  In Christ they were now one people, God’s people and so called to love and care for each other. I wonder who we might be called to put aside our differences and to work together.

If you are struggling at this time and just need someone to talk to, then please email us at office@pb.org.nz or call 0223075225 and we will contact you.

Mainly Music – Wednesdays from 10.00am during school terms. This programme is a fun way for parents and their children to spend quality time together based around music and movement. It is an opportunity for us as a church to connect with and offer something back to the community of which we are a part. It is also a way for us to demonstrate care, concern, and support for those with young children.

Small Groups. We have several groups meeting. Contact the church office@pb.org.nz if you would like to join one.
